Two children play ‘family’. A super shiny suburban idyll cast in plastic. There is Barrrbie. She effortlessly takes on the roles of career woman, wife and mother. Together with her dream husband, the overprotective bank manager Helllmie, they live the family dream with two children. But life in suburbia cracks and breaks. Because where they came from, the concrete is cold and grey. The fear of social decline casts a shadow over the pink plastic world. The outside world penetrates the dream house, and Barrrbie and Helllmie are confronted with their dark secrets.
Emre Akal relocates the plot of Ibsen's Nora – A Doll's House to a toy world. What begins as innocent children's play turns into a nightmarish swansong of family ideals, entrenched images of women and toxic relationships. Emre Akal casts all of this so lustfully in a stunning, visually rich language that you feel as if you have been flung out of a dream of happiness.
