After the French Revolution, no stone has been left unturned. The young aristocrat Elisa de Montfort, too, lost her entire fortune. She can only call herself and her servant Pedro her own. A bad basis, if one gets involved with the desirable and uncompromising slave trader Alberto de Maghalaes and gets into a torrent of love and dependency, which in its wake captures all the figures of the play: From the count to the novice. The dilemma is: love promises freedom, equality and fraternity, and yet it is a claim to possession. Each character in this crisis of charity seeks an answer to the question of the price of man and what he has to sacrifice for it.
