Inspector Corinth is sent to an apartment block. In an apartment that it is locked from the inside, he finds a man, Hans Fischer, who has been dead for two days, and a tape recorder without any tapes. Who could have reported the death if he hadn’t told anyone he was committing suicide? So was it murder? Hans Fischer worked for the police as a retired surveillance specialist but couldn’t resist bugging things in his private life, too. Corinth finds tapes in a hidden compartment on which he can hear voices and noises from an apartment in the building, and decides to spend the night there. He finds more and more new tapes and what is revealed is ever more shocking and frightening. And then he hears himself. For the last time.
