Die Sorglosen
2 D, 2 H
UA: 25.02.2007 · Schauspiel Köln · Directed by: Lukas Holzhausen
The brothers Erik and Anders haven’t seen each other for three years. But one evening, Anders appears on Erik’s doorstep, and with him his wife Maren. The reunion is a joyful one; everyone seems to be doing well. But this façade falls apart over the course of the evening. Maren’s pregnancy seems to bring everyone happiness, until Anders reveals that there is another child in the car, and that it is very sick, and that they no longer have the strength to bear its screams. The reason for their visit wasn’t the desire for a family reunion, but their own depression. And then Anders asks if Erik’s wife, a children’s nurse, would like to care for their child in his last year—because Maren is at her wit’s end, and Simona and Erik are childless.

In this work for Schauspiel Köln, Lothar Kittstein has created a dense, nightmarish intimate play. Four people come together and slowly reveal the depths of their lives, piece by piece. An evening that begins carefree and happy turns into an essential confrontation with questions of guilt and responsibility.
