Charlotte had to watch as her lover, the scientist Sergej, blew himself up along with his professor and the professor’s laboratory. She gets into a taxi with Sergej’s briefcase to drive to her father, who is a public figure. On the way, she finds a revolver and a letter in the briefcase. The letter tells of dangerous experiments conducted on humans by the professor, in which Sergej had already received terrible injuries. Meanwhile, Charlotte is being followed by mounted constables that turn out to be intergalactic space patrollers.
Calico, the taxi driver, imagines that he is in a space shuttle and tells a science-fiction version of the story, while his passenger Charlotte processes what is happening in the style of a Dostoevskian tale of the 19th century. The third “film” emerges in the mind of the listener.
