Rose and Richie wake up at the dawn of life as a platonic unity. Bodies and souls are intertwined. But soon they crash down onto the floor of reality with a bang. Down to earth. And soon they fall into all the calamities that the world has prepared for them.
Richie, an artistic genius in a delirium of self actualisation, ignores Rose and sculpts his alter ego, Kid Ron, the boxer. Rose doubles herself, too. Her alter ego, Rose 2, steps out of a mirror as a boxing trainer in which the original Rose watches herself trying to be an actress and practicing roles.
Only just released from Paradise, the unified human being splits into Rose and Richie, and is immediately at odds with itself. Two souls fight, oh yes, in each breast. But the doubles, with their stubborn fragmented souls, slip away from their originals. During an insane competition, Richie shoots his boxer Kid Ron and in doing so makes himself master of his creatures once more. Rose 2 counts amongst the fallen, while Rose and Richie draw closer to each other again. And with this, Paradise is closed. Rose and Richie have to adjust to the outside world. The finale is the beginning of a fight between love and hate.
Knock Out works with grotesque scenes of contemporary theatre and also deploys elements of dance and music. The showdown between the four main characters is caricatured and commented on by three crazy angels who accompany the play rhythmically and musically. Every-day jargon and the language of art, children’s songs and pop music are mixed into a play rich with fantasy. As a foil for a highly personal story about society.
