The story began a long, long time ago. In the 1990s. It was an innocent time. A sheltered time. A naive and beautiful time. And although 16-year-old Oedipus is overwhelmed by growing up and all the world-weariness that goes with it, he notoriously believes in the good in people and the world. Because man is called man because he forgets, because he represses.
When the oracle of Delphi prophesies that he will kill his father and marry his mother, Oedipus is forced to act. He finds happiness in Thebes. He marries, becomes king and has four children. A terribly nice family! But why do his children have to die one after the other? Why is fate so hard on Oedipus? And why are we living in this gigantic chaos today, when the 90s were so terribly nice?
After Moritz Franz Beichl made the audience laugh and cry with Effi Briest, he now states with his new text MfG, Ödipus: Not everything was better in the past either. But maybe it can get a little better someday, somewhere, somehow.
