In the new fast-paced age of hectic productivity and obsessive efficiency, the shadowy spectre of an economy that seems to dictate our lives hovers over everyone’s heads. The vocabulary of the market economy increasingly shapes our understanding of the world. Mobility, flexibility, innovation, performance, efficiency.
A woman is getting ready – as always. She is preparing herself for a big night, because “in the world, there are actors and victims, and if you have a date with one of the greats, you of course belong to the first group.” Tonight, Beatrix has an all-important date with her boss’s consultant. Before the eyes of the audience, she transforms from a person into a flawless product that meets the demands of the new performance specifications. She climbs into the armour of the nineties to win the war. She has trained her body, learned the new rules of the game, and she is ready to act as a product in the age of production. Because she wants to survive – “one day, I would like to have so much money that I can really understand how to spell the word freedom.”
Morgen mein Meister is the portrait of a sensitive woman who feels that the ground on which her life is built has become fragile, and who is trying to survive in times that have got tougher. It is the story of a person who has gone a perilously long way from her origins.
