Was nützt die Liebe in Gedanken
nach dem gleichnamigen Roman für die Bühne bearbeitet

UA: 23.01.2016 · Landestheater Coburg · Directed by: Johannes Zametzer
"Live fast and die young": This sentiment exactly describes the feelings of the clique surrounding the siblings Günter and Hilde. In the shimmering atmosphere of the Berlin of the twenties, the teenagers throw wild parties, fall in love, and want to live their lives to the full. Günter feels drawn to Ellinor, Hilde has an affair with the cook Hans. But Günter also has an eye on Hans and Hilde finds her friend Ellinor attractive. And then there is Paul: Paul comes from a very humble background, visits Günter’s school on a scholarship and falls head over heels for Hilde. With his poetic talent, Paul is fascinating to Hilde, but he is not the only man in whom she is interested.

The two friends, Günter and Paul, make an appointment: fearing a life under ever greater constraints, they want to voluntarily end their lives at its climax, as an act of self-determination. An old revolver in their possession lends this plan a deadly explosiveness. In the early morning, after a night of alcohol and jealousy, their dance on the abyss ends in sad reality.
