Of all things, Helen and Kali had to meet in a lecture about Romanticism. Student Helen is accustomed to the predilections of the Romantic period. But when Kali, a former tennis star, leads the young woman into his inherited wax figure cabinet, what fascinated Helen about Romanticism becomes an unsettling truth.
The group of wax figures displays the death of Lord Byron. Kali makes the characters move by pressing a button. While a historic scene from 1824 plays, Helen and Kali get closer. Helen becomes more and more scared, but when she wants to escape she realises she is locked in. Kali has left Helen behind under a pretext.
The wax figures become more and more lively. Byron is in agony during his death struggle, while his visitors have to watch him die helplessly. Suddenly Byron sees Helen, whom he mistakes for his half-sister and lover Augusta. Byron’s loyal companion Gamba asks Helen to play the part to give the terminally ill Byron some happiness. Reluctantly, Helen complies with the scary wax figures. When they decide to sacrifice her so Byron doesn’t have to die alone, Helen manages to escape the death marriage with the help of a ruse.
But in the end, Helen becomes a part of the wax figure cabinet. She is now Augusta, and the play begins anew when Kali appears with a young tennis player.
