"The land surveyor K. comes to a village belonging to a castle, where he is to perform his appointed services. Both the officials of the castle and the villagers behave strangely reservedly towards K. The castle seems to exert an fear-inducing power on the villagers and to control their lives in an enigmatic way. But the more stubbornly K. tries to get behind the events in the castle and its bureaucratic apparatus, the deeper he falls into the state of affairs in the village, which he considers to be unacceptable. The unfinished novel, created in 1922, supplies Alexander Müller-Elmau, after Amerika, with material for a renewed involvement with Franz Kafka. A coproduction of the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Düsseldorf Symphoniker. " (Announcement Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus)
