One Friday evening the Kleins, the family of a wealthy Jewish physician, are very literally faced with questions that humanity has hitherto dealt with only in theory. On this evening, the Kleins must decide which course the world should take in the future and whether good is good and evil is evil. On this evening, the Kleins must choose between life and death.
