Gitty Glitory
2 Darsteller
Gitti Glittory: the parody on the parody of monologues about theatre and its absurdities – a showpiece for a versatile actor.
The play is set in a makeup department with passage to the artists’ canteen. Here, the audience, waiting for hours upon hours for the performance of Gitti Glitory, has taken its seats. To pass the time, Didi, makeup artist and former actor, entertains them. One gag follows another, one dirty joke at a time – a staccato of dark, often sexist jokes, and the audience joins in. Spurred on by Volker, who informs him about Gitti’s further lateness, Didi bridges the time masterfully. He calls a spectator up on stage, washes her hair, puts her under a hood drier and re-enacts “Dinner for One” with her.
Finally: Gitti arrives. And even in the dressing room, she puts on a show that surpasses Didi’s string of jokes in its cynicism. No star is safe from her spiteful remarks, no other diva is accepted. Even the Pope isn’t safe. Trained by the “Viagra-Parody”, her great success in the States, she also uses her sharp tongue against her different husbands. Her summary: “When God created man, he must have been completely sloshed…”. Only, she can’t perform. So Didi must step into the breach again. For this, the intendant promises him a “leading part” in the next play. Without further ado, he puts on her wig and paints his lips red – a new Gitti Glittory is born.
