The promised land: it’s called Germany, Italy, France or Austria for many Africans who come to Europe. One such person follows this uncertain path which augurs a better future. But nothing turns out as hoped. Threatened by smugglers and haunted by the voices of her past, she begs to at least be treated like a human in the land of her dreams.
“Mwanza (…) tells a side of the refugee story that, at least for most Europeans, goes unheard – without kitsch and with genuine amazement at the contempt and coldness that humans can show strangers who want to bring their talents to a new land.” (Der Standard)
