On the occasion of the Football World Cup, the businessman Erich, whose firm is just about to win a lucrative contract for the construction of a hotel in the Emirates, has rented a VIP lounge. He invites his pals – the furniture designer Otto, his PR man, Max, and his childhood friend, Walter – to watch the game with him and drink a lot of beer, as real guys do.
But soon the frequent phone calls from Otto’s mother make it apparent that he is still quite firmly tied to his mother’s apron-strings. Max, his confidant, is in the same boat. For Otto it’s the compulsory Sunday schnitzel at mother’s; for Max it’s the Saturday game of Ludo. Not unproblematic, but thank god there’s Walter – he still lives with his mum! Otto and Max eagerly throw themselves at this worst of cases to set Walter free.
Only Erich doesn’t seem to have such problems. He only sees his mother occasionally in court, where the lawsuit for power of attorney that he has filed against his father is being heard. Erich is brutal, not a pussy like these mama’s boys around him. Or is he?
“You can like your mother, you can pull out your thinning hair over her, you can worship her like an idol or have to eat a schnitzel with her every Sunday. But you can’t seem to stop NOT understanding this mysterious connection.” (Manfred Schild)
