Once upon a time... there was a child in a thick, dark fairytale forest who had no name, was locked up and poor and was supposed to spin straw into gold. His only possession was a mysterious box. Many fairytales could begin like this. But this one is very special. It was written because the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child celebrates its 35th birthday in 2024, but there are still problems with enforcing children's rights today. Often, they are not even known. So it is high time to enable Runkelpunzel, Hänselkrötel and all other children to stand up for themselves and their rights.
In a joint development process involving children from Karlsruhe, the team around director Sonja Elena Schroeder and author Stefan Hornbach, a play on the subject of children's rights has been created that informs young people about their rights and empowers them to demand them. In a workshop format following each performance, there is room for in-depth and creative engagement with the topic. (Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe)
