Niels Höpfner (1943-2016) began working as a radio journalist after studying German literature. Later he became a dramaturg in Bonn and then at the Theater am Turm in Frankfurt during the time of Rainer Werner Fassbinder as its artistic director. He wrote stage plays, radio plays, essays, a film script and he also worked as a literary critic.
