Ruth Johanna Benrath

Ruth Johanna Benrath, born in Heidelberg, is a prose, poetry, theatre and radio play author. She studied German, philosophy and history. She received the Frau Ava Literature Prize for her novel Wimpern aus Gras, published by Suhrkamp Verlag in 2011. In 2020, her homage to the Viennese poet Elfriede Gerstl GEH DICHT DICHTIG! was named "Radio Play of the Year" by the jury of the German Academy of Performing Arts. For her children's theater play im wald (da sind), Ruth Johanna Benrath received both a grant from the Children's and Youth Theater Center in Frankfurt am Main and the 23rd Dutch-German Authors' Prize for Children's and Youth Theater Kaas & Kappes. Her children's book Hase und Mond. A story for Odilia was recently published in Windy Verlag Düsseldorf. Ruth Johanna Benrath gives workshops in scenic writing for kids and young people, also in the field of young music theatre. In 2021, she received the Munich Poetry Prize for PSALM/aus der Tiefen. She lives in Berlin.
