Three friends are standing on a coast forgotten by the rest of the world. It is hot and dusty. The sun is almost screaming up there in the sky. The three dream themselves out of their dreary everyday life. Who knows what is hidden beneath the rippling waves? Ruins of vanished civilizations, mythical sea creatures dreaming of land, and countless nameless people.
They quickly decide to run away from their sun-baked village. The vast sea beckons, and the horizon promises freedom and adventure. They imagine that somewhere far out there - deep under the sea - is a shining city. A destination they can only reach with the help of the sea witch from the old factory. They make a fateful pact with her: they give up their names and venture into unknown realms in their little boat. On their journey to the shining city, they encounter not only sea princes and princesses, but also the sea king himself. A kingdom full of wonder and fantasy unfolds before their eyes.
But reality mercilessly descends upon the three. Soon they are fighting their own dissolution, threatening to dissolve into foam and spray.
Roland Schimmelpfennig has written a tenderly touching children's play about the subject of escape. A reminder of the voices that fall silent in the ocean every day, and a hopeful rebellion - a bow to life.
