Die Biedermänner
Kleinbürgerkomödie in 5 Akten
Nach dem Schwank Der Glasschrank von Heinrich Rüthlein
4 D, 12 H, Verwandlungsdek
There’s much commotion because of a glass cupboard, a piece of furniture consisting of two parts, the hutch and the bottom, which are separated again and again while switching owners. This is caused by the rumour that the antique-looking cupboard is extremely valuable. What is most interesting about this comedy is its setting, the ambience, the characters and their distinctive behaviour. For Stromberger’s Biedermänner is a funny and satirical description, a revealing sketch of the life of the petit bourgeois on the eve of World War I. A folksy satire in the style of Carl Sternheim, perhaps slightly influenced by Ludwig Thoma.
