As a descendant of Jewish-German exiles, Guido Wertheimer (2023/24 resident writer at Theater Münster) grew up in Buenos Aires, where his great-grandmother fled in 1939. She had previously lived in Berlin and Recklinghausen, where the family owned a shoe shop that was expropriated by the Nazis and still exists today. Guido Wertheimer has written a play about his family, the quadrangle of Münster-Recklinghausen-Berlin-Buenos Aires, and the new and old fascism. In it, he confronts the long shadow of his German-Argentine family history and searches for the connection between the bodies of the present and the dead of the past.
