Wolfram Mehring

After studying philosophy and literature at the Sorbonne, Wolfram Mehring first started working in radio plays, before founding the Théâtre de la Mandragore and the Centre International de Recherches Théâtrales in Paris in 1958. Between 1966 and 1970, he was artistic director of the Théâtre du Vieux Colombier, Paris. Since then, he has been working not only in France and Germany, but on every continent as director, author and teacher. His fairy tale plays about foreign cultures were written in the Nineties. “We all live under the same sky, but we each have our own horizon. The special thing about a child’s horizon is its endless scope. It can be populated by everything, everything finds a place in it. However, it gets reduced too often by an unimaginative adult authority until the only thing there is still space for is the quantifiably practical for one’s own benefit.
