I believe that myth is, as Hölderlin says, a new departure in human history. And I am concerned with this departure, not with myth-finding shortly before the end. You can do that, too, but it doesn’t interest me. So new archaic forms that don’t assume to radically replace history, to forget it, but in which history is a chapter that must be preserved so that the same thing doesn’t happen again with history, so that knowledge from what has happened remains. If it has a place at all, myth belongs in the high spiral of knowledge that we once had. It would be an attempt at abandoning the historical track but, at the same time, an attempt to keep living on this track. (Stefan Schütz, 1987)
