Lukas Rietzschel's novel is a chronicle of collapse. A highly topical literary confrontation with our torn land. Philipp and Tobias grow up in a rural area of Saxony. In summer the air shimmers above the concrete slabs, in winter the frost breaks open the streets. The building of the parents' house seems to be the departure into a new life. But behind the trees lie the industrial ruins of the GDR, the surface of the open-cast mining lakes gleams, behind the uniformity of everyday life the fear of losing one's homeland smoulders. For Philipp and Tobias, the lack of perspective becomes more and more threatening. The situation escalates when the marches in Dresden start and when their hometown is supposed to receive refugees. While one brother withdraws into himself, the other looks for an outlet for his anger. And finds it.
