Švejk, the hero from Jaroslav Hašek’s novel The Good Soldier Švejk, is at the heart of Stefan Schütz’s play. The lovable, cunning, administrative idiot Švejk flusters the authoritarian comrades so much with his unorthodox behaviour that, in the end, he cannot save himself.
In this witty play, Stefan Schütz shows the victory of the chaotic individual over a technocratic power apparatus that can no longer allow individuality, let alone understand it.
