A young astrophysicist and her father go on a road trip from Berlin to Moscow. Gruff and funny dialogue sequences between two people who have become strangers alternate with moments of pausing. An exchange of blows between the exiled generations on a journey that will last three days, four nights and a few billion light years. A touchingly tender, poetic drama about two people, left alone in a world without utopias and ideals. Two comets on a common trajectory. Always on a collision course in orbit, they collide with other (flying) bodies and disperse into space. The absolute atomization.
The Fall of Comets and Cosmonauts is a surreal family drama about the fragmentation of the Soviet Union, about the commercialization of love, the rise of individualism and the associated uprooting of the individual. A painful personal confrontation with Russia and life in exile.
"I am neither a megaphone nor a flag bearer. I write within the limits of my humanity, my subjectivity, with my ambivalences, my contradictions, my doubts". (Marina Skalova)
