Stefan Schütz
Stefan Schütz was born in Memel in 1944. He attended the State Academy of Acting in Berlin. Helene Weigel hired him for the Berliner Ensemble. He began writing for the theatre in 1970. In 1979, he received the Gerhard-Hauptmann Award of the Freie Volksbühne. In 1980, Stefan Schütz moved to West Germany. This is where his major novels were written, Medusa, for instance, for which he received the Alfred-Döblin Award. Until his death in December 2022 Stefan Schütz lived in Oldenburg/Holstein for many years.
